Day 1

May 01, 2020

Okay, so today is day 1 of doing something for at least 30 minutes that makes me happy.

It's kind of a no brainer for me today because it's my son Anderson's 11th Birthday. So the whole day today is going to be filled with joy and fun! This is the first time EVER he has been able to "skip school" on his Birthday. We did sign on for his teacher's office hours, and they sang him the traditional Lookout Mountain Birthday song while wearing his birthday ribbon(thank you, Jenn). We opened presents, had donuts, played some ping pong (Thank you, Uncle Mark and Aunt Kristin), and went to Sonic for lunch. My mom arranged with Jenn for his friends to do a drive-by car parade to surprise him, and he loved it so much that he was moved to tears. He kept saying he felt like a celebrity. LOL. A Birthday for the books, that's for sure!

So what's on your agenda today? Have you already done your 30 minutes?

I know Sarah went for a run, and Donna did some journaling.

What have you done? What can you ...

Day 30

Apr 30, 2020

Today is the last day! If I have learned anything over these last 30 days, it's that it's hard to be intentionally positive and seek out things that make us happy in a rapidly moving world. I found out today someone else I know passed away last night, Sgt. Major Val. He was one of my favorites. He had this positive, loving vibe about him and lit up any room he was in. He was the type of person that you would always want to be around. I know he lived a good life, and he was 95. I remember when his wife Claire came into my office to plan his surprise 80th Birthday party. Normally I would never advise a surprise party for an 80-year-old, but not for Sgt. Major Val, he was more alive and vibrant than a lot of the young Staff NCO's running around that club. Anyway, with all the loss I have experienced over these two days, it really brings me back to what is important in life. We are not promised tomorrow, and we don't know when our final day will come. So even if it's only for 30 minutes a ...

Day 29

Apr 29, 2020

Yes, I slept in until 9am today. I woke up at 8 and decided to just lay in bed. Yesterday was jam packed with projects and doing my taxes so I think my body was worn out and needed the rest. It's a good thing I did my 30for30 early today because once I got out of bed, I was told that Anderson's teacher from last year passed away last night. I'm heartbroken. She was an amazing person, and I'm so sad for her new husband and family. I also don't know how I'm going to tell the boys because they both loved this teacher. Death is so scary to me. I wear my heart on my sleeve, so I'm not worried about people in my life not knowing how much they mean to me, I worry about how it changes and affects the people still left behind. This is an awful reminder that we are not promised tomorrow, so make sure you are choosing every day to live your life in a way that makes you happy. Don't sweat the small stuff and tell those that are in your life now how much they mean to you. We will miss you, and ligh...

Day 28

Apr 28, 2020

These cute little flamingos popped up on our street a few weeks ago. It's still a mystery on who did this but a cool way to be reminded that we have great neighbors. They all have a little positive message on them to brighten your day. I plan to leave mine out until they come to collect him! Have you done something nice for someone lately without recognition? It's a cool feeling and one that I think people miss out on a lot. I hope this day finds you doing something nice for someone.

Day 27

Apr 27, 2020

Meet Myles! He has been in our family since he was a puppy. He's 12 years old and my shadow. He's really the best dog around and such a smart dog. We don't take him for many walks as we should, but he doesn't seem to mind. He's a chill go with the flow dog, so it's not like he needs to be walked, but today we all have a case of the Mondays in our house so I thought it would be great to get some fresh air and take Myles out to see the hood! We had to make it a short walk today because it's in the 90s today..AHHHHHHHHHH....I hope your week is off to a great start and that if you had the case of the Mondays today that you were able to get your body moving because if you move your body, you change your mind!

Day 26

Family Movie Night!!! Up this week....GOONIES!!!! Almost a year ago I mentioned something to the boys about a Disney movie and neither of them had heard of it(I already forgot what it was) Anyway, I was so upset that they had never seen that movie. The more I thought about it, and I realized they hadn't seen a lot of the Disney classics that I loved. So we started doing a mandatory family movie night. I compiled a list of Disney movies that were on the list to watch, and we alternate taking turns on who gets to pick the movie. We have candy and popcorn, put all our technology away, and just sit on the couch cuddling and watching movies. We do it every Sunday, and everyone looks forward to it. Sometimes the boys really just look forward to the candy, but sometimes when it's an excellent movie, they enjoy family time also. We have loosened the rules on it being a Disney movie. I do hope that you have been wrapped in your family's love today for your #30for30together! Happy Sunday!

Day 25

Apr 25, 2020

Saturday!! Even during quarantine, Saturdays still have a fun, fresh vibe to them. We have been doing well staying home and got a little creative today. Our neighbor arranged for a food truck to come to our street, we placed and paid for our order online and reserved a time slot for pick up. It was super yummy and felt like we were eating out! We had our best friends over for a backyard dinner to celebrate national pool opening day! The kids swam, and we had a fun social distance dinner. They even brought their own table, chairs, drinks, food, dessert, everything LOL The guys played zoom trivia night with Andrews's brother and won! Those boys are such smarty pants. It was a great Saturday and didn't let quarantine stop us from having a great day!

Had a meeting of the minds today with these girls! Just checking in and solving the world's problems this morning. 90 minutes of pure genius! Staying connected with people is so important even if it's only over a Zoom call.

Day 23

Today is World Book Day!

I mentioned earlier that I have finally become a reader. It's so great to be able to learn things in a book in a matter of weeks when the author has spent years researching the information to go into the book.

Today I was on a live one-hour master class with Jim Kwik. If you haven't heard of him, he teaches speed reading and memory recall. I bought some of his courses so I could help my Pathway to Passing students with some tips and tricks on how to learn information while studying for the CMP Exam. I don't want them just to learn it to pass the exam and forget the information, I want them to learn it and remember it!

As adult learners, we aren't really taught how to read, and things have changed since elementary school, right?! Jim is super smart and easy to follow if you want to check him out on social @kwiklearning he teaches in small bite-size pieces(just like in Pathway to Passing).

So, since it's World Book Day, what was the last book you read that yo...
